The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) resumed discussions with the Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA), facilitated by the government, before the November 30th deadline. The purpose of these discussions is to reach a four-year labour framework agreement.

Review of Secondary Gifted Centres Underway – Study will also examine the feasibility of additional Advanced Placement opportunities
This fall we are studying our secondary gifted program offerings in light of declining student enrollment (a situation faced by many school districts across Ontario as a result of our declining birth rate) to ensure program locations are both viable and sustainable for students.
French Immersion Programming Consultations
We are having public consultation meetings this fall to receive your input into the expansion of our Early and Middle French Immersion programs serving students entering senior kindergarten and grade 4 respectively. It is the intent to have enhanced availability of these programs in some areas of the District as early as September 2009.

Earl of March Secondary School
Rides Inside For Cancer Research
It took six organizers, one teacher, and one- hundred and sixty-eight volunteers to make the first ever Inside Ride a success at Earl of March Secondary School. The ride was so successful that plans are already underway for next year’s event. Organizers hope it will become an annual occurrence at the Kanata area secondary school.

Orleans Youth Set the Table
Cairine Wilson Secondary School students, left to right, Katie Taylor, Hannah Neil and Candace Shea. count cans and pack boxes for their Orleans Youth Set the Table initiative. Students created the food drive four years ago for their local foodbank and it has grown in participation every year. The students say: "there are so many needy people at this time of the year. We wanted to do something to let them know that we cared."
Principal Constance McLeese says she is very proud of the leadership and caring her students are showing their community. "This is a wonderful example of our Character Education in action!"
Crystal Bay Centre Unveils New Hot Tub Program for Special Needs Students
Crystal Bay Centre for Special Education is celebrating the opening of a new Hot Tub Program at their school located at 31 Moodie Drive, Nepean. The grand opening takes place Thursday November 27 from 2 to 3 pm.
